Goal

Mobilise the joints through play and learn to rescue a team-mate.

Description

A game of tag in a 20x20 m square to warm up the joints. Two taggers in bibs are the rust: when they tag a child they call out a joint (ankle, knee, hip, shoulder or neck) and that child freezes, rotating it in big circles. A team-mate frees them by standing in front and doing five circles with them in each direction. It mobilises the whole body through play and teaches kids to help each other.

Step by step

  1. 1

A tagger tags child A and calls a joint: A freezes, rotating it.

  2. 2

A team-mate goes to rescue A: stands in front and together they do 5 circles in each direction.

Rules

Two taggers. A tagged child stays in place rotating the joint they are told. A team-mate frees them by doing 5 circles with them in each direction; then both are free. Every minute, the coach picks two new taggers. If there are 6 rusty players at once, the taggers win.

  • Rescue team-mates quickly.

Common mistakes

How to correct: Show the big, slow circle before starting.

  • Nobody goes to rescue.

How to correct: Remind them that if there are 6 rusty players the taggers win.

Questions for the players

  • “Who do I rescue first without getting tagged?”
  • “Which joint were you given?”

Levels

  • A · easyJust one tagger and only easy joints: shoulder and knee.
