Goal

Repeat the Cruyff turn at speed and finish with an accurate pass to a teammate.

Description

Three teams in lines, each with a cone 12 m away. The first player dribbles to the cone, goes round it with a Cruyff turn (fakes the pass and drags the ball behind the standing leg), dribbles back and, on reaching the starting cone, passes the ball to the next in their line. The team that finishes first wins, but only if everyone has done the turn properly.

Step by step

  1. 1

Blue 1 dribbles to the far cone.

  2. 2

Turns with a Cruyff and dribbles back.

  3. 3

From the starting cone, passes to blue 2.

Rules

Dribble out, Cruyff turn at the cone and dribble back. Pass to the teammate from the starting cone. If the turn isn't a Cruyff, repeat it.

Rotation and restart

Coaching points

  • Turn tight to the cone.
  • Fake the pass before the turn.
  • Pass along the ground to the teammate's foot.

Common mistakes

  • Turning wide and taking a long loop.

How to correct: Arrive close and turn on the spot.

  • Passing in a hurry and too hard.

How to correct: A soft pass along the ground: if it gets away, we lose more time.

Questions for the players

  • “Is it quicker to turn close to the cone or far from it?”
  • “How does the pass have to be so your teammate can set off fast?”

Levels

  • A · easyOutbound only: turn and a long pass to the next player from the far cone.
  • B · standardAs described.
  • C · advancedTwo cones: Cruyff turn at the first and a sole turn at the second.

If you have fewer or more players

  • With 3 fewer: Two lines.
  • With 3 more: Four lines, so nobody waits more than three turns.
  • With odd numbers: In the line with one fewer, one player goes twice.
