2v2 with two outside supports: enter the square, combine with the partner or with the support and leave dribbling
Linkalde exercise
How it works
- Who starts
- A1, outside the square on the left side, with the ball.
- Who takes part
- One pair of attackers (A1 and A2), two defenders (R1 and R2) and two outside wildcards (C1 and C2).
- What the ball does
- A1 enters dribbling, plays with wildcard C1, who returns it, and leaves dribbling on the right side.
- How to score
- One point for each exit with the ball under control.
- When it ends
- With the exit on the right side, the loss of the ball or the ball leaving the square.
- How it restarts
- The next pair starts from the left side with another ball.
- How players rotate
- The player who loses the ball stays inside and the defenders swap roles with the attackers.

Goal
Decide between dribbling, combining with the partner or using the outside support to beat a 2v2 press and leave the space with the ball under control.
Description
A 32 x 20 m area with a central 12 x 12 m square marked by four cones. Two red defenders, R1 and R2, wait inside the square. A pair of blue attackers, A1 and A2, start outside on the left side, and A1 has the ball. Two yellow wildcards, C1 at the top and C2 at the bottom, are outside the square, one on each long side, and cannot be pressed. The pair must enter the square, beat the two reds and leave dribbling the ball out on the right side. To do so they can dribble alone, combine with each other or use one of the wildcards for support. If they lose the ball before leaving, that pair stays inside to defend.
Step by step
- 1
A1 enters dribbling on the left side and A2 offers himself beside him.
- 2
A1 plays with wildcard C1 and moves to receive the return.
- 3
C1 returns the ball to A1, who is now on the other side of the defenders.
- 4
A1 leaves dribbling on the right side.
Rules
Players enter on the left side and leave on the right, always dribbling the ball. The wildcards play two touches at most and do not enter the square or get pressed. The defenders do not leave the square. If the reds win the ball, the attacking pair stays inside and the reds go on to attack. A clean exit is worth one point.

Rotation and restart
When the reds win the ball, or after three attempts by a pair, the reds and the blues swap roles. The wildcards take turns with a waiting pair every four minutes.
Coaching points
- Look before receiving: decide whether to dribble, pass or use the support.
- Pass and move: the player giving the support moves into the space the defender leaves.
- Shield the ball with the body when two opponents are close.
- The defenders coordinate: one presses and the other closes the pass to the support.
Common mistakes
Entering in a straight line against the two defenders.
How to correct: Enter diagonally and look for the support before reaching them.
The partner stands still behind the ball.
How to correct: Move to the free side to offer a passing line.
Passing to the wildcard and not moving afterwards.
How to correct: Pass and move to receive the return on the other side of the defender.
Questions for the players
- “When is it better to dribble rather than look for the outside support?”
- “Which defender steps out and which one covers when the pair enters?”
Levels
- A · easyPassive defenders in the first two attempts and no touch limit for the wildcards.
- B · standardAs described.
- C · advancedDefenders at full intensity, wildcards on one touch and a compulsory exit in under eight seconds.
If you have fewer or more players
- With 5 fewer: A single wildcard and a 10 x 10 m square. (2v2 with one outside support)
- With more: Two identical zones working at the same time. (2v2 with supports in two zones)
- With odd numbers: The extra player acts as a third wildcard on the right side.
Age
Variations
- With a third attacker. A third blue enters after three seconds and the pair becomes a 3v2.
- Against the clock. Each pair has ten seconds to get out; if not, the point goes to the reds.
