How it works

Who starts
The engine (L) of each train, who chooses the first stop; the carriages follow.
Who takes part
The whole group in trains of three, each child with their own ball.
What the ball does
Each child dribbles their own behind the engine to the stop it chooses (in the drawing, the pole zigzag) and finally shoots at a small goal.
How to score
Each goal in the small goals scores a point for the train.
When it ends
When the train shoots at goal, one lap is over; the game lasts 4-5 minutes.
How it restarts
The new engine chooses the next stop.
How players rotate
After shooting, the engine goes to the back of the train and the next child is the new engine.

Goal

Improve coordination with and without the ball on a changing circuit, choosing free stops.

Description

Coordination circuit in 30x20 m with four stops: hoops, ladder, poles for the zigzag and two small goals. The children go in trains of three, each with their own ball. The engine (L) chooses which stop we go to and the carriages copy. After shooting at goal, the engine goes to the back of the train and the next child chooses. It works on coordination on a route that keeps changing and on looking for a free stop.

Step by step

  1. 1

The engine chooses a stop and dribbles towards it; the two carriages follow.

    1. 1.1 L dribbles.
    2. 1.2 First carriage.
    3. 1.3 Second carriage.
  2. 2

The engine zigzags between the poles.

  3. 3

    Shoots at the small goal.

Rules

Trains of three, each child with a ball. Stops: hoops (jump with the ball in your hands), ladder (go through it with the ball close to your foot), poles (zigzag dribbling) and goal (all three shoot). If a stop is busy, the train waits doing alternate sole taps. Each goal scores a point for the train.

Equipment

  • 4 hoops
  • 4 poles
  • 1 coordination ladder

Rotation and restart

After each goal, the engine goes to the back of the train and the next child is the new engine and chooses the order.

Coaching points

  • The engine keeps their head up to see which stop is free.
  • Carriages stay two steps behind the one in front.
  • Alternate your foot at each stop.

Common mistakes

  • The carriages overtake the engine.

How to correct: Copy exactly what the one in front does.

  • Always going to the same stop.

How to correct: Look at which stops are free before choosing.

Questions for the players

  • “Which stop are we going to that is free?”
  • “Who will be the next engine?”

Levels

  • A · easyFixed order of stops and no waiting at busy stops.
  • B · standardAs described.
  • C · advancedTrains of two and the engine changes when the coach blows the whistle.

If you have fewer or more players

  • With 6 fewer: Trains of two and only three stops.
  • With 3 more: One more train and one more stop (hurdles or cones).
  • With odd numbers: One train of four or one of two.

Variations

  • Numbered stops. The coach shouts a stop number and all the trains go to it.
  • Train with a pass. At the goal, the engine passes to a carriage and the carriage shoots.
