Goal

Keep the ball in a zone with superiority, choose the moment to pass to the next zone and finish quickly with support play and movements off the ball in superiority.

Description

42 x 22 m pitch split into three 14 m zones by two dashed lines. At the far end of the third zone, on the right, there are two 3 m mini goals. In the first zone four blues, A1, A2, A3 and A5, and a yellow joker, C, play against two reds, R1 and R2, in a 5v2 possession game. In the second zone A4 waits with a red, R5, who presses. In the third zone the reds R3 and R4 wait, defending the mini goals. A1 has the ball. The blue team must make five passes in a row in the first zone without R1 and R2 touching the ball. After the fifth pass, the player on the ball sends a pass to A4 in the second zone and the other four blues run into the third zone to attack with him in numerical superiority and score in a mini goal.

Step by step

  1. 1

A1 passes to the joker C, at the top, with the first pass.

  2. 2

C passes to A3, on the right of the zone.

  3. 3

A3 passes to A5, at the bottom.

  4. 4

A5 passes to A2, on the left.

  5. 5

A2 completes the fifth pass by returning the ball to A1.

  6. 6

A1 passes to A4, in the second zone.

  7. 7

The four blues in the first zone run to attack in the third.

  8. 8

A4 passes to A3, already in the third zone.

  9. 9

A3 shoots at a mini goal.

Rules

Five passes in a row must be made in the first zone; the joker counts. If R1 or R2 touch the ball, the count starts again from zero. After the fifth pass the ball can be played to A4. When A4 receives, the other blues run into the third zone and attack against R3, R4 and R5. R5 cannot leave the second zone. A goal is worth one point. In 6 minutes, each team counts its points.

Rotation and restart

After each attack, the two defenders in the first zone swap roles with the two blues who have touched the ball least; the joker does not change.

Coaching points

  • Count the passes out loud and do not rush.
  • After passing, move to give the player on the ball another passing line.
  • Run together and at the same time to arrive in superiority.
  • Finish quickly before the defence gets set.

Common mistakes

  • Passing to A4 before the fifth pass.

How to correct: Count and wait for the fifth pass before looking for the second zone.

  • Two attackers close to the player on the ball and nobody far away.

How to correct: Open up angles to always offer two passing lines.

  • Reaching the third zone without tempo.

How to correct: Set off at the same time and keep the speed up to the finish.

Questions for the players

  • “What advantage does playing five against three in the last zone give?”
  • “How do you recognise the moment to pass to the second zone?”

Levels

  • A · easyThree passes in the first zone and no pressure from R5 in the second.
  • B · standardAs described.
  • C · advancedFive passes at two touches, R5 free to come out and only ten seconds to attack in the third zone.

If you have fewer or more players

  • With 9 fewer: No R5 and only one defender in the third zone. (Attack in three zones with fewer opponents)
  • With more: A third defender in the first zone and one more blue. (Attack in three zones with rotations)
  • With odd numbers: The extra player acts as a second joker.

Variations

  • Fewer passes. Go down to four and then to three passes to speed up the attack.
  • With a goalkeeper. A regulation goal with a goalkeeper replaces the mini goals.
